Scanning involves converting your photographs into digital
images that can be sent to CT Imaging via Email at
ctisubmit@aol.com
(why
this address?)
If you own a scanner, please follow the recommendations
below, this will give you the best results:
Click Here if you do not
own a scanner.
-
Clean the
scanner glass with a soft lint free cloth to ensure it is free of
fingerprints, smudges and dust particles.
-
If the
photograph is in a picture frame or photo album, carefully remove it before
scanning.
-
If
portions of the original photograph are stuck to the picture frame glass
or album page, do not attempt to remove those portions and risk further
damage.
-
Scan
these photos directly through the glass or plastic album sheet and
attempt to get the highest quality image possible.
-
If
necessary, make multiple scans, rotating the photograph 90 degrees each time
and send us all of the images. The more information we have to work with the
better.
-
Always
handle photographs by their edges, avoid touching the picture area of the
photo.
-
When
handling photographs, it is best to wear clean cotton gloves to avoid
contact.
-
Scan your
photographs in 16 million colors RGB or higher, even if they are black
and white.
-
Scan at 300
dpi (dots per inch). This is very important, no scan should be less that 300
dpi.
-
If your
scanning software includes a sharpen or any other automatic correction
option, please make sure it has disabled.
-
Save the
scanned image in JPEG, TIFF, or PNG format.
-
If
saving as JPEG, use the highest quality (minimal compression) options.
This format is recommended for
DVD
Slideshow productions
-
PNG is
preferred for its ability to maintain the highest quality with the
smallest file size. PNG format is recommended for
Photo Restoration projects.
-
TIFF is
also preferred for its ability to maintain the highest quality however
usually has a much larger file size. TIFF format is recommended for
Photo Restoration projects.
-
Use
descriptive filenames when saving the final images.
Don't have a scanner?
If you do not have a scanner, you can take your photos to a
local photo scanning service center and have them scanned at a very reasonable
cost.
Most, if not all, photo or document service centers in your
local area likely provide image scanning services, check your local camera
supply store and yellow pages.
Just take your photographs with a printout of our scanning
recommendations and they will be happy to assist you.
